What a mommy makeover is
Mommy makeover is a popular term for combining surgery on the breasts with surgery on the abdomen, and sometimes the waist and flanks, after pregnancy and breastfeeding. A typical plan pairs a breast lift, augmentation or both with an abdominoplasty, often with liposuction.
It is not one fixed operation. It is a plan built for your body and your priorities.
Why people combine surgery
One anesthetic, one recovery period and one block of time away from family can be appealing. Changes in the breasts and the abdomen after pregnancy often appear together, and addressing them in balance can give a more harmonious result.
What to consider
Longer surgery means longer anesthesia, and it raises certain risks, including blood clots in the legs. The safety of combining depends on your health, the extent of the operations and the time they take. Some plans are safer split into two stages.
- Be finished having children, since pregnancy changes both areas again
- Be at a stable, healthy weight
- Plan for help with children and home during recovery
- Understand that a tummy tuck limits how you stand and move early on, and the breast recovery adds to this
- Expect more than one scar area, and a longer recovery
- Do not smoke or use nicotine, which harms healing
Safety limits and staging
A responsible plan sets limits on operating time and on the amount of liposuction. If the combination is too long or too complex, Dr. Jaberi will recommend staging it. Starting with the area that matters most to you is a legitimate choice.
Recovery
Walking early is encouraged, but lifting, exercise and driving are restricted for a period. Swelling and tightness are normal and settle over weeks to months. Your surgeon will give written instructions, and see our post-operative instructions article for general guidance.
Cost
A combined plan is quoted as a package that may be lower than the total of the individual fees. Your written quote will set out what is included.
